Detroit Midtown Cultural Connections Competition

Project Location: Detroit, MI

Client: Detroit Midtown Cultural Connections

As a finalist in this design competition, Mikyoung Kim Design’s vision for the cultural midtown district creates a diverse tapestry of spaces that encourage community interaction and strengthens the vitality and connections between the district’s institutions. The vision plan creates a platform for active arts performances and pop-up installations, while providing healthier outdoor public gardens. The scheme is based upon inclusion and diversity, bringing together current residents of all ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. Building on the strength of Detroit’s maker history, upcycled local materials and a modern twist on local craft shape an authentic sense of place.
