Congratulations to Ian Downing for his promotion to Associate Principal at Mikyoung Kim Design!  Through his work in complex urban environments and expertise focused on landscape technology and systems-focused design, he has proven experience with the complexities of structural landscapes and seamless integration of sustainable site strategies.  Working closely with Mikyoung, Ian serves as a studio leader, overseeing the planning and design of projects through the technical phases of construction.

Over the past decade with MYKD, Ian has overseen the execution of numerous award-winning projects both in greater Boston and across the country.  His current work includes the expansion at Boston Children’s Hospital, three parks and gardens for The Trustees of Reservations, planning and development of the Northeastern University campus along Huntington Avenue, as well as the McIntire Botanical Garden – which recently received a National ASLA Honor Award.  As senior project manager and designer for the 37-acre Texas Medical Center TMC3 urban park, he has brought his vast knowledge of urban design and execution to this innovative project.

Ian brings a multi-disciplinary and technical perspective to the office with a Master of Architecture degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and extensive practice experience within the landscape architecture field.  As he continues on as a studio leader and in his new capacity as Associate Principal, Ian will continue to bring excellence to his role overseeing MYKD’s diverse range of projects.

Ian grew up in Skowhegan, Maine where he developed his love of nature and engagement with the outdoors.  Over the past ten years, he has spoken at numerous conferences, including most recently at the National ALSA Conference on the importance of collaboration and design innovation with the latest technologies.  His work with the Boston Children’s Hospital’s Green Master Plan recently received an Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design award.
