NY Port Authority Masterplan
Project Location: New York, NY
Client: Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
Architect: Perkins Eastman
The “Convergence” design concept, developed in partnership with Perkins Eastman and Arup, was selected as one of three finalists in this international design competition for the Port Authority’s bus terminal. Our team’s concept relocated the terminal to the Javits Center, removing buses from street level and creating a new waterfront park that doubles as resilient infrastructure. The design leveraged all aspects of transit infrastructure to create an iconic place in the city for travelers and residents. The vision reestablished neighborhood streets, creating a permeable street-level network intended for small vehicles and a modest volume of commercial traffic. The master plan proposed a grand central plaza at the Port Authority Bus Terminal as the final destination along this new pedestrian corridor.
