NJ Environmental Labs: Containment

Project Location: Trenton, NJ

Client: New Jersey Public Health Environmental and Agricultural Laboratory

This agency for New Jersey oversees the food supply and soil and water resources of the state. The sculpture is located at the entry of the interior lobby space and is integrated into the ground plane with glass flooring. Layers of custom fritted glass, fiber optic cables, and dichroic glass create a sculpture that transforms as one walks across the surface. Cellular images imprinted on the glass surface were contributed by scientists in the laboratory. These healthy microscopic animal and plant life images are transformed as hundreds of points of color below the glass symbolizing viruses invade the cells.
