Boston Children’s Hospital – Hale Gardens

Project Location: Boston, MA

Client: Boston Children's Hospital

Architect: Shepley Bulfinch

Located in the heart of the Longwood Medical District, the Boston Children’s Hospital Hale Building is a new clinical tower with four healing gardens that are focused on bringing restorative gardens and more effective medical care to the patients, families and caregivers of this world-class pediatric research and clinical institution. Utilizing evidence-based design that demonstrates the importance of easily accessible green spaces, the plan strategically integrates these unique gardens, enhanced streetscapes, and interstitial spaces with the campus to foster health and well-being. The goal of this new project was to integrate healing gardens and human-centered design into every aspect of the clinical experience. The plan reimagines and enhances access, better accommodates user needs, creates habitat, and establishes a sense of playful and immersive experience throughout the hospital grounds.
