Sellwood Bridge Gateway: Stratum

Project Location: Portland, OR

Client: Regional Arts and Culture Council

Inspired by the power and beauty of the geologic and natural phenomena of the Willamette River Valley, the stratum project is a series of geologic totems.  Defined as an ecological quilt, the sculptural elements define the bioswales along the street edge, acting as a gateway environment that is defined by the speed of the users as they pass through this important threshold.  Layers of various recycled and formed materials create a stitched surface that represents earth, water and sky as the gateway to the Sellwood community.
