As part of the City of Charlotte’s expansion of the LYNX Blue Line, their “Art in Transit” program strives to integrate more art into capital improvement projects.  We created a sculptural installation in the plaza adjacent to the UNC Charlotte stop, as well as a custom glass enclosures on  passenger waiting areas.  Upon exiting the train, transit riders are now welcomed by an interactive sculpture: a series of enveloping stainless steel shadow screens transforms the plaza into a dynamic play environment.  Custom textured and perforated stainless steel mesh undulates and wraps, leading students and visitors to a central space that is defined by an inner core of light and shadow.  The sculpture folds and bends to encourage seating and engagement.
